Neon Caverns
5 June – 5 September 2025
Neon Caverns is a new solo show by artist Alex Billingham. Alex asks – how do bodies considered ‘Other’ connect with nature? All too often ‘different’ becomes unnatural, becomes dangerous. But nature is built of change and fluidity. How do we connect with our planet, with plant growth, moving tides and ancient rocks and structures? Can we come together to help each other survive and maybe even thrive?
Neon Caverns is an amazing sensory experience featuring wrap around film projections, sculptural playable elements, crystals, and a projection pool. Share space and time away from the everyday in this fun, vibrant shelter where one world mixes with another!
There’s also the chance to play the Neon Caverns computer game after you’ve experienced the exhibition. Enjoy a chilled out end to your visit – the game features adaptive controllers so everyone can join in.
“Deep within the Neon Caverns we wait out the passing storms… Letting the rocks hold us tight.”
Neon Caverns is suitable for all including school groups and families.

Artist: Alex Billingham
Alex Billingham is a West Midlands based artist working nationally and internationally, often pulling from their own lived experience of being Disabled, Trans, Neurodiverse and Queer, seeing how these identities collide and intermingle with the world we all live in. Their diverse practice combines visual arts, live art, theatre, film, digital and sculptural elements.
Alex says: “I constantly adapt to whichever medium best delivers the research, play and experimentation which drives my practice. Learning new skills to take ideas forward while allowing time for research to bleed back into my work.
Survival underpins a lot of what I do. Playing with possible tomorrows to find better ways for us all to survive into the future. I’m currently exploring ideas around Permaculture in relation to how we continue to connect with the planet. Considering how ‘Othered’ Bodies connect to the landscape.”
Alex takes an analogue approach to manipulating digital technology, allowing them to realize a low-fi visual style, binding grime with glitter to make beautifully dirty work.
