SPIRAL, the LEVEL resident performance company, are soon to embark on their short tour as part of the Derbyshire-wide All Dance platform.

SPIRAL members will take ‘Imprints’ to Cliff College, Calver on Tuesday 24 November from 1-1.35pm, giving new audiences a chance to see this piece of physical theatre performed to an industrial and highly energetic sound track. The choreography uses strong, controlled and dynamic movement to create a highly visual and sculpturally angular performance within an improvised structure – the movement, sound and costume fusing together to present a fully integrated piece of live art.

Second up is ‘Pulse’, due to be performed at Friesland School, Sandiacre on Wednesday 25 November from 1-1.35pm. The performance was created as part of the ‘Derwent Pulse’ event, a large scale environmental light installation created by Charles Monkhouse and comprising illuminated spheres flowing the length of the River Derwent. SPIRAL’s performance uses the original spheres programmed to pulse with red light every second, marking the flow of time. Performers transport the spheres as if they were moving independently through water, creating patterns of light and movement resonating with the ancient pulse of the river.

The sound created for ‘Pulse’ also explores the River Derwent and its heritage, comprising audio recordings of the river, its industrial heritage, its wildlife, people and contemporary human environments over the past 20 years, presenting an intense and sometimes disturbing audio narrative.
