Residency feedback:
‘Thank you LEVEL for having me this week! Every day was filled with wholesome goodness – to be able to share space and listen to everyone was absolute bliss! Lots of fun, insightful and silly conversations.
You have nurtured such a safe space here at LEVEL which is credit to each and every one who works, volunteers and dedicates their time and energy. Simply can’t wait for our paths to cross again soon.‘
Debbie Bandara
Debbie is a director, choreographer, teacher, digital artist and producer. She brings a wealth of experience to stage that excites the minds and bodies of all audiences. Her two strands of work land in the creative and teacher / coach realm.
Debbie is the founder and Artistic Director of Forest Tribe Theatre, an award winning, carbon-neutral immersive digital company creating pieces for all audiences, including audiences with additional needs. She reaches out to audiences that may not necessarily experience embodied movement in a theatrical setting.
An experienced facilitator who supports creativity in all forms, Debbie firmly believes in the importance of nurturing our creativity to produce new and exciting work. She teaches units for BA (Hons) Future Media Production at Manchester Metropolitan University School of Digital Arts (SODA). Her background in Artificial Intelligence, Directing, Choreography and Multi-Sensory Immersive design has allowed her to create her pieces for live and digital spaces. Her work encourages innovative ways to break the forth wall for immersive experiences, including virtual production.
Debbie’s most recent piece of work has embedded haptic technology for PMLD (profound and multiple learning disability) audiences. While on residency at LEVEL, she’ll will be working on ‘Kindred Spirit’ – a live-art installation where the audience designs their own AI companion and spends a short time in their presence. The experience explores companionship, intimacy, and desire, raising awareness of what ‘care’ means to us through a multi-sensory world. Debbie will work with LEVEL Makes and LEVEL Youth Collective participants as well as external groups during her residency.
