Journeys
18 September 2026 – 22 January 2027
A dance film by LEVEL Centre residency artist Bethany Smith. The piece uses a combination of chance methods, improvisation, and technique, to explore the artist’s journey as a dancer.
Journeys was co-choreographed by Bethany Smith with Hubbub Theatre Company dance facilitators Rosie Watkins & Emily Deacon. Bethany was selected as an East Midlands Dance Network mentee and developed the piece further with mentors Sophie Thorpe and Pete Shelton. Through Arts Council Dance Development funding, Bethany has been able to develop her original live piece into a film. This was completed during an artist residency at LEVEL Centre, in collaboration with Sophie Thorpe and Adam Robertson.
‘My journey as a dancer and a journey through nature. Growing as a dancer makes me feel confident and free and being in nature makes me feel calm and free. The more I improve as a dancer the more I become one with nature. Throughout the piece I get more interactive with nature.’ Bethany Smith.
