LEVEL Makes: Performance (online)

Delivered by Artist and Facilitator Melody Sproates,  Level makes Performance online is a series of workshops that explore creativity and expression for adults with Profound Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD).

The online Performance workshops took place via Zoom on Tuesdays from 11am-12pm. Each term the group started a new theme. Some of the themes included:

Celebrating Difference

Exploring different celebrations from around the world, including Chinese New Year and Disability Pride Month. We will be creating some exciting scenes, characters and stories from objects and costumes we can make in our homes and care centres.

Melody Sproates: Performance Online Tutor

Melody Sproates (they/them) is a queer theatre-maker, writer, facilitator and zine-ster based in Newcastle. They make joyful, silly and educational work which aims to help marginalised people’s voices be seen and heard. They love to create the arts opportunities and representation that they wish they had when they were growing up – aiming to make their workshops and projects a safe and inclusive environment where participants feel comfortable to be themselves, share their ideas and most importantly have some fun!

They work with a range of different age groups, identities and abilities, but most often with young people, the LGBTQIA+ Community and people who have learning disabilities or are non-verbal. Mel also self publishes their own comics and zines such as Hail to the Zine Baby and Stay home stay queer.
