Natalie Sharp
Natalie Sharp is an artist who’s work spans across sound, vision, and costume, bringing them together through interactive multimedia performances that challenge perceptions and societal norms. During their residency, they plan to continue exploring alternative performative modes rooted in Horizontalism: a practice of making art from a place of lying down, both physically and politically. It centres care, rest, connection and the sea. Some of the themes being developed are:
Acts through Horizontalism:
- Lying down on the seabed
- Lying down as a form of body activism
- Lying down to rest and become
- Lying down with fellow peers, comrades, lovers and advocates
- Lying down with Aunty-Gravity to suit ergonomic needs and desires
Interconnecting Edgelines:
- Entering the ocean in 50 different ways
- Tracing outlines of species that live between coast and sea
- Embarking on liminal adventures—where all is possible
- Declaring that everything is connected
Spiral Formations & the Matriarchal Siren:
- The allure of her sweet sound beckons you
- Summoning and becoming, releasing and transforming
- A song sung through the matrilineal tongue of my mother
- A retelling of Homer’s Odyssey through the matriarchal lens
- A space for vulnerability, where you allow your body to be tied to the mast
