Molly Christadoulou

Molly Christodoulou is an abstract impressionist artist. Her paintings are inspired by a connection to nature and created through embodied experience. A balance disorder means she perceives movement and sound differently, with increased intensity, shaping her relationship with the landscape. She works mainly in acrylics with elements of pastels and drawing.

Molly says: ‘In the studio I translate these embodied experiences, often painting with my hands and using large bodily gestures, before building up layers. The result is art that holds atmosphere, energy, and rhythm.

My subjects range from the micro movement of breath in meditation, through wind and rushing water to the traverse of celestial bodies. Forests, water and mountains hold particular significance for me as these environments bring grounding and uplifting joy.

I’m interested in how these movements both affect and mirror our internal emotional states. My hope is that my paintings create a meeting place between our inner landscapes and the natural world.’

Things Molly loves: being barefoot in forests, swimming in open water, playing with my two girls, small festivals, camping in our ridiculous bell tent, eating things I’ve grown or cooked outside, reading epic fantasy novels, movement through dance, yoga and climbing.

Molly’s paintings are currently part of the Air Arts exhibition at the Royal Derby Hospital and the Level Centre Summer Open. Her work was previously selected for the Leicester Museum & Art Gallery Open Exhibition, and is held in wellbeing and therapy spaces.

Molly grew up in Hastings, the origin of her love for the ocean. She spent time living in Thailand which deepened a yoga and meditation practice that is vital to her artistic process. She currently lives and works in Derbyshire.
