Wishing Well

Wishing Well is an engaging interactive installation by artist Sian Morrell and LEVEL Youth Collective. It explores a unique and well known tradition amongst Derbyshire villages – Well Dressings.
For those who might not know, Well Dressings are community works of art created using natural materials like leaves, moss, petals and seeds. You can see them across Derbyshire between May and September every year.
Come and visit Wishing Well and be transported to the tranquil village of ‘Levelover’, a world dreamt up by LEVEL’s Youth Collective. Look inside our well and make your own wish! Then help our busy villagers create a beautiful Well Dressing for the local Water Sprite. Will the Water Sprite be pleased with your offering and grant everyone’s wishes?
Afterwards you can get creative and decorate the giant LEVEL Well Dressing with your own designs, words or markings!
Wishing Well is a fun, sensory and peaceful space, filled with characters, visuals and animations. Accessible and suitable for all including school groups and families.
Wishing Well is part of the Water and Wellbeing programme, made possible with support from the National Lottery Heritage fund.
Booking
Open Monday to Friday from 16 September 2025 – 9 January 2026
Tickets are FREE, but please book in advance. On the booking page you will be given the opportunity to support our work by donating to LEVEL Centre. This is optional and will not affect your booking.
Bookings are for a one hour visit. You only need to make one booking for you and your group. When you book for Wishing Well you’ll have exclusive use of the experience for one hour, but you can book a double slot if you need more time or have extra guests. For large groups please give us a call on 01629 734848 to arrange your visit.
Please select your preferred date and time in the booking calendar. You’ll receive an automated email confirming your booking which also gives you the option to rearrange if required.
Our building is accessible but please contact us if you would like to discuss your visit and the Team will be happy to help.

Creators: Sian Morrell and LEVEL Youth Collective
Sian Morrell (she/they) is a multidisciplinary artist from Derbyshire. Their practice combines threads from motion & interactive design, graphic illustration, screen print, scenic work and signwriting. They work as an educational facilitator, and enjoy bridging physical and digital practices.
LEVEL Centre Youth Collective is a creative group for young people who are neurodivergent, have autism and / or ADHD.
The group meets weekly to explore a range of different contemporary arts experiences away from the pressures of school or home, giving young people space and time to develop their interests and confidence.
Participants work with different artists, materials and digital equipment, and take part in bigger projects which are shaped by themselves.
Water and Wellbeing Project
‘Water and Wellbeing’ is a two-year funded programme supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. Our Youth Collective will be exploring local Derbyshire Dales heritage while celebrating traditional craftsmanship in a thoroughly modern way.
The ‘Water and Wellbeing’ project will delve into Derbyshire’s rich history which revolves around water – from the development of the mills to the growth of tourism. The creative practices they’ll experience with our artists and tutors link directly to this, and the group will explore how to use techniques such as traditional printing and claywork to interpret their own vision of what the local area means to them today. This will inspire a display of work by Youth Collective, held at LEVEL Centre and Bakewell Old House Museum!
